The final match of 2013 Champions League between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians was a mouth watering
prospect for any cricket fan the world over since two of the greatest batting
legends of the game, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, were to play their last
limited over game. Having played their last two matches at Firozshah Kotla
Maidan of Delhi, the ground had effectively become home ground for Mumbai
Indians while Rajasthan Royals had moved out of their comfort zone of Jaipur
ground where they have a 13 match unbeaten winning streak.
However, after winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals negated the home advantage for Mumbai Indians and the contest was equally poised. Mumbai Indians got off to a steady start and with some wickets in the middle over during the spell of Pravin Tambe made it look like Mumbai Indians might end up around 150 runs on the scoreboard. However, a blinder of innings by Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell with cameos from Dinesh Karthik, Pollard and Harbhajan saw Mumbai Indians post a mammoth target of 203 runs.
Rajasthan Royals took to the challenge positively and half centuries from Ajinkya Rahane, his fourth consecutive, and Sanju Samson saw Rajasthan Royals cruising in their pursuit of 203 runs. However, an inspiring bowling spell by Harbhajan Singh triggered a batting collapse for Rajasthan Royals and they were all out with 33 runs short. Harbhajan Singh got Man of the Match as Mumbai Indians completed their double, winning IPL and Champions League trophies.
